Snoopy Doggy Dogg was not always the gangster he pretends to be. Well, not a gangster exactly, but the hip-hop badass who pulls off the ‘pimp’ style better than most. His really name — far less ‘pimp’ sounding — is Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr. He started his musical career playing piano in church; so almost as far from badass as you can get.
But after Snoop got himself into trouble with the law in his teenage years, and then joining a gang, and then getting arrested for cocaine possession — you get the story, he went to prison for a spell, etc.
Then a reformed and determined Cordozar, who grew up in California, decided to rebrand himself as Snoop Doggy Dogg, and started his career that would eventually see his bank account enriched with millions of dollars. His parents actually gave him his famously recognisable moniker that lives to this day.
He is now worth a colossal $135 million dollars. He is one of the wealthiest and easily the most successful rappers of the 90s — and he’s still producing the beats to this day.
Since the launch of his musical endeavours as a rapper, he has become something of a media mogul and fairly decent actor, who has starred in both films and TV series.
Among his IMDB list are hits such as The Wash, Half Baked, Training Day, and Starsky and Hutch. He also has directed some films under a different name, something silly like Snoopy Scorsese. Not sure he’s quite as good as THE Scorsese, though.
Regardless, success breeds success, of that we are certain. With the accumulation of wealth and fame from his music and acting, money was piling up and a Snoop Doggy needs to invest his cash.
So of course, Snoop decided to invest in a weed delivery company in California called Leafs By Snoop, along with a media company that owes its name to weed: Merry Jane. Ironically, he’d have been arrested and imprisoned for the weed distribution some years back — before it became legal in California. Stick to what you know, there’s something in that.
But endorsements will always follow the famous, and Snoop absolutely makes the most of the opportunities presented to him. On his resume are endorsements for big brands such as Chrysler 200.
Snoop Dogg is also from a family that has seen much professional success. He is first cousin of famous R&B singers Brandy and Ray J, and to Sasha Banks, a famous WWE professional wrestler.
As much as Snoop Dogg is loved and adored by fans across the world, Sweden will not be seeing him again. In 2015 while on tour in the country, he was pulled over by police in what Snoop thought was a case of simple racial profiling.
He declared to his Swedish fans after the incident that ‘All I did was came to the country and did a concert, and now I've got to go to the police station. For nothin.’
Oh well, sure they’l; find his music on the internet, he’s fairly popular, after all.
