What was once a sanctioned Federation Internationale de l’Automobile auto race held through the 60’s, 80’s and 90’s is now the Austrain Grand Prix held at the Red Bull Ring. Originally held in two locations in Zeltweg, eventually the Grand Prix transferred to Österreichring in 1970 before being replaced by the A1-ring in 1997. The Grand Prix is steeped in history and responsible for multiple crashes, including a famous occasion where the race was restarted twice after it was deemed too dangerous by FIA Standards. That day, Nigel Mansell beat teammate Piquet to the chequered flag before Österreichring was replaced. The most successful driver at the Austrian Grand Prix ever was Alain Prost with three wins, with Schumacher, Hakkinen also winning the event twice.
The race is now held at the Red Bull Ring and continues to promise fast paced action and unpredictable results.
