Top 5 poker winners of all time – check out these huge high-rollers
Poker’s rise in popularity over the last decade probably owes a lot to the online sphere. What it also means is that the money pots have grown alongside to match it. So how much exactly can a good poker face and a bit of maths (probably more than a bit, we know) be worth in the real world.
We take a look at the top-5 biggest poker winners of all time, and trust us, there are some life-changing pots out there.
Dan Negreanu – $30,686,160
Canadian Negreanu holds the number one spot as poker’s biggest winner. During the independent player’s long career not only has he amassed over thirty million big US bucks, but he’s also recognised as one of the premiere players, and ranked by the service Global Poker Index (GPI) as such.
So what does this dude spend his wonga on? Well, apart from the usual glamorous assets one acquires when earning such large sums of money, Negreanu also throws a fair bit of cash at charities. His philanthropy work is no doubt covered by his interest – to add some (non-cynical) perspective.
Antonio Esfandiari – $26,495,566
Trailing not too far behind Negreanu himself, is American Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari who has raked in just shy of 27 million dollar. His name owes more to his Persian roots (born in Tehran, Iran) than anything suggestive of Italian. The self-styled trickster decided his birth given name, Amir, just didn’t sound right for his career choice and didn’t pair well with the magician part.
The Magician is known for his elaborate chip tricks and for his three notable WSOP tournament wins. Whichever way we look at this guy, we can settle on that he is quite a character with lots of poker success. Oh, and did we mention that he starred in the movie Freelancers, alongside Robert De Niro and Curtis 50 Cent?
Erik Seidel – $25,444,445
If you could say any one man has had a stranglehold on the high roller circuit, and is likely to make the final plays each time, then Seidel is your man.
Over the course of his poker career he has won a staggering 25 million dollars. That’s approximately way more than you. This 55 year old isn’t worrying too much about his pension. Woken blame him
Daniel Colman – $24,427,801
Colman is basically a kid at 23. He’s accumulated a staggering amount of money before even hitting 25, and he’s only a million dollars behind Seidel (55) in winnings, yep, the figures are so big that we have to resort to saying only a million.
Colman has also beaten the number one Negreanu, where he won first place (colossal) prize pot of $15.3 million.
Phil Ivey – $23,199,535
Ivey first nurtured his poker talent in the 1990s playing against co-workers at a telemarketing company in New Jersey. Over 23 million US smackers later, in winnings later, it’s probably not a bad guess to say that he doesn’t regret it.
He won three World Series of Poker bracelets in 2002, and now has 10 to his name, and is tied with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan in second of all time. This dude is only 38. Time to start saving.
